Fire District Established December 5th, 1955
The Salem Fire Protection District is located at the intersection of Interstate 57 and US Route50, Marion County Illinois. 60 miles East of St Louis, Missiouri and 265 miles South of Chicago, Illinois.
The Salem Fire Protection District covers approximately 125 square miles including the City of Salem.
The Salem Fire Protection Districts primary responsibility of fire/rescue service encompasses the welfare of its 12,000 residents, 13 miles of Interstate, many square miles of agribusiness and agricultural activities, not to mention 16 square miles of oilfield.
Fire Operations are conducted from the Fire Station located in the center of Salem. The Fire station is the home of 9 pieces of apparatus and support equipment in addition to being the home of the on duty Engineer.
Firefighter training is conducted from the Fire Station and at the Omar K Squbb training facility. The Salem Fire Protection District also maintains a regional training facility in cooperation with the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute
The Salem Fire Protection District is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, Illinois MABAS Division 47, Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts, Illinois Fire Chiefs Association and South Central Illinois Fire Chiefs Association.
